There is a lot of Wake County beyond the route you take every day. A place you have not stopped for coffee. A shop whose owner has a story. A community gathering that could become part of your week. Wild for Wake County is here to help you find a little more of it.

Our coverage includes Raleigh and all eleven of its fellow Wake County municipalities: Apex, Cary, Fuquay-Varina, Garner, Holly Springs, Knightdale, Morrisville, Rolesville, Wake Forest, Wendell, and Zebulon. We are also making space for neighbors in unincorporated communities.

The idea started in Wendell. Our sister publication, Wild for Wendell, showed us the value of useful local information with a human scale. Here, we are keeping that neighborhood heart while making room for a whole county.

This is a beginning, not a complete catalog. We are building a directory, gathering dated events, and publishing field guides with links to the information behind them. Your tips will help us see more of the county.

This year also brings our first Wild for Wake County Awards. Free reader nominations will help our editors discover businesses and organizations that deserve recognition for service, local character, and community contribution. We will publish our selections by the end of December.

Start with your town. Look around a little. And if there is a place or a person we should know, let us in on it.
