The 2027–28 school-choice application season opened October 15, 2026. Wake County Public School System lists that date as the opening of its early college, Crossroads FLEX, magnet and year-round application windows.
Early college and Crossroads FLEX applications run through December 11, 2026. Magnet and year-round applications stay open through January 21, 2027. The different deadlines make this a useful moment to decide which options you want to explore and add the appropriate closing date to your calendar.
Kindergarten enrollment for 2027–28 also opened October 15. Children who turn five on or before August 31, 2027, can enroll for that school year. All kindergartners must register at their base school before applying to a magnet school; follow the district’s enrollment steps and program-specific requirements.
The Magnet and Early College Fair is Saturday, October 24, 2026, from 9 a.m. to noon Eastern at Millbrook Magnet High School, 2201 Spring Forest Road, Raleigh, NC 27615. District staff, parents and students will answer questions about programs and applications. Use the district’s dated fair page for current details.
Separately, the Board of Education plans to review feedback on its 2027–28 student enrollment proposal and hold a public hearing on October 20. The district’s October 14 newsletter says a final-plan vote is expected November 17.
